Inside The Star beyond the gaming floor
Half of The Darling's guests never touch a chip. The building holds a theatre, ten bars and the suburb's best kitchens — the casino is one floor among many.

The Star Sydney reads as 'the casino' from outside and 'the complex' from inside. The gaming floor is a floor — a large one — but the building also carries a lyric theatre, eleven dining outlets, the spa, the pool deck and the event spaces that fill without a chip in sight.
For hotel guests the useful map is simpler: everything a good evening needs sits within one set of lifts, and the gaming parts are easy to include or ignore.
The theatre and the events floor
The Lyric Theatre runs the musicals and the visiting acts — seats for around 2,000 and the kind of productions that do their Sydney season here. Staying upstairs makes the interval drink a lift ride rather than a taxi argument.
The event floor handles everything from 40-person dinners to 1,100-guest galas. The concert calendar shifts quarterly; the desk gets the schedule before the posters go up and tickets pair well with a night upstairs.
"The casino gets the signage. The theatre, the kitchens and the pool get the locals."

The food map
Ten-plus outlets from buffet to chef's counter, and the useful split is simple: Sokyo and BLACK for dinner, Harvest for groups and mornings, the lobby bar and Cherry for the hours in between.
Inside the complex
- The Lyric Theatre — musicals and touring acts
- Sokyo and BLACK — the two dining rooms that matter
- The Darling Spa — eleven rooms, level six
- The pool deck — heated, open to 23:00
- Cherry and the lobby bar — until 2 am
The event calendar matters more than the amenities list for choosing dates. A big show downstairs fills the complex's rooms; a quiet week leaves the tower to the people who actually want it.
Planning around it
Tell us what the trip is for and we'll tell you what's on the calendar that week — whether to lean into the energy or choose dates that avoid it.
That's the honest pitch for the building: one roof, a full evening, and the option to ignore the part the brochures lead with.
